This post is in honor of my new love for meat, and a diet I started a few days ago. I'm cutting out all carbs and sugars, so basically I get to eat lots and lots of meat!
Stephanie Casper's Knitted Meat is no exception to my new found love {I was a veggie for about 9 years...} It's even wrapped in cellophane and packaged like you would buy at the market! This was created for an advertising and design project while attending Pratt Institute in NYC.
Besides meat, can you tell I also really love knitted things?

PS: What do you think of the new layout? This is an interim pre-coded Blogger design while I create an original one... but I think it's good enough for the meantime, yes?

what i wore june 14
I mentioned in a previous post that I am in love with Flickr's What I Wore Today group. It's a fun way to keep a journal and it's a good way to avoid those repeat-offender days.
Here is my first drawing from June 14:
I know it's a little late (ok a lot late), but as you can see, I have an awesome scanner (and it's only hooked up to my slow Dell laptop) so it's a pain in the ass to scan, edit and post. I waited until I had about 20 so I could do them all at once.
I have a lot of fun doing these little doodles. I also like to see how my style of drawing evolves in each one, and in the later ones they are more like mini diary entries.
I use a zig pen and then color them with watercolor pencils... they are so convenient!
I hope you like it! I will be posting more soon!

back to reality

Hello everyone! I am back from my vacation at Cape Cod. It was amazing! I had a great time relaxing and enjoying the beach. I've got freckles all over my face and awesome finger-smear tan lines on my back :)
It's time to get back to work, though. I am putting myself on a schedule of working about 10 hours a week on the projects I'm currently {procrastinating} on, such as a logo for my hair salon Vogue, a family friend's logo for her jewelry, an identity design and collateral for an insurance company, and my own website and blog redesign.
I hope this schedule helps me finish up these things so I can start on some new projects. I am also very excited to start redesigning this blog and updating my personal website.
It's also time to get back to blogging. A big thanks to Katrina for guestblogging a few times while I was away.
If anyone else is interested in guestblogging, just let me know! I'm open to new ideas for posts and love seeing what other people are interested in.
Have a happy Monday! More later, and hopefully some photos of my vacation.

julia cocuzza
Today's Artist of the Day is Julia Cocuzza, an artist based in Brooklyn, New York.

I've gotten to meet the artist - my older brother became good friends with her when they were in college together. Her paintings and designs have always fascinated me... her works are bright and bold, yet blended. As you can see from some of her pieces, she gets inspired by music, lyrics, current events, and city life.

I encourage you to check out her website and her Etsy for more of her incredible works!

the wizard of oz
Happy 71st Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz's debut in movie theaters!

I stumbled upon an article that contained 25 different depictions of scenes from that ultimate story of fantasy, adventure, and escapism. Here are some of my favorites, and if you would like to see more works by the various artists, feel free to explore their deviantart sites!

Where I am as of right now there is a 40% chance of rain... perhaps I will have the chance to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow to an actual rainbow later today? Let's hope!

mike curato
I forgot that Gabrielle was on vacation this week... so "my bad!" for not updating all things inspiring for a few days. I'm just getting used to this, but already it's a lot of fun for me. Taking a break from working on my Master's thesis to look for some awesome art for you all out there is a nice stress reliever for me.
While G is away, I figured that now would be as good of a time as any to put in a shameless plug for my older brother, m!ke curato. So why not? He was the first artist I ever knew... he has been creating since before I was born.
"m!ke was raised in a small town outside the big city of New York. He enjoys movies, magical creatures, penguins, puppies, being clever, the great outdoors, movies, city livin', and treats. Pet peeves include popcorn shells lodged between teeth and people who walk in the middle of the sidewalk. You can find him gallivanting around Seattle on his way to rent a movie or buy a burrito (or both, if it's a good night). He draws inspiration from artists such as Mark Ryden, Edward Hopper, Vermeer, da Vinci, di Chirico, Holbein, Seonna Hong and Chris Van Allsburgh."
Below are some of my favorites of his pieces that are in his portfolio.

Stay awesome.

pretty {sewn} things friday
Friday is here! Which means my vacation starts tomorrow! I am going to Cape Cod for the week. I am very excited to have some time off and relax, but I will try my best to keep posting while away.
Today's PTF is special, because the theme is all things sewn. Pretty adorable if you ask me.
Enjoy & happy weekend!
