sketchbook

After watching True Blood last Sunday, I felt very inspired by what Lorena said:

"I would just love to rip you open and wear your rib cage as a hat."

So this is my interpretation :)

works in progress drawings

So I finally gathered the energy to take pictures, plug in my camera, upload the pictures and even edit them! (Because the paper color was gray)

Here they are, in the order that I drew them. I'm still thinking about whether or not I should add some elements of color or more design... if you have any suggestions please let me know what you think!

etsy lovin'

I haven't "flipped through" Etsy in a while, and I just went through some of my favorite sellers, favorite items and suggested shops, and here is what I got!

From Babyjewlz... a charming bicycle ring, that doubles as a locket and opens up to insert a photo.

From Simplethrift... a vintage quilted bag with a chain strap.

And to match the bag... a pair of vintage cutout oxfords from the Bag Basement

From Lulu Bug Jewelry... adorable avocado felted necklace.

From Tilly Bloom... anatomical charm bracelet. When will my organ-phase end? Or is it only getting bigger?

And while we are on the subject of anatomy... a ribcage necklace to match, from Run Wild Horses.

A tiny vintage suitcase from Tree and Kimball Market. This would be perfect for carrying all my extraneous art supplies.

Since this is supposed to be an art blog I should also include some prints. This is an awesome ferris wheel print by Gallerie de Illumina.

And finally, a cute birdnest print by Golly Bard.

What kind of things do you lust over on Etsy?

NEWSFLASH! Christina Hendricks (aka the hot Joan Holloway from Mad Men) modeling this scarf on Etsy. Wonder how that happened...

meredith dittmar

I am blown away by these handmade clay designs by Meredith Dittmar. She is an artist from Massachusetts, now living in Portland. Her work is unified by the themes of biology, technology and consciousness, and portrays these themes with human-animal-plant-energy amalgams. The result: colorful, detail-oriented and thought-provoking three dimensional art.

mark lazenby

I guess today is a collage-inspired day. Mark Lazenby has been a collage artist for 15 years and has been published in popular magazines and newspapers all over the world. Of course I am partial because he uses a lot of anatomy, especially hearts, in his work. I love it.

kate macdowell

Hand carved porcelain sculptures by artist Kate MacDowell. I love all of these soooo much! So beautiful and creepy at the same time. Definitely my style.
