part of the reason i left this blog over a year ago was because i felt disconnected from my art & i couldn't appreciate anything that i made. it discouraged me, so i stopped creating. i kept telling myself i was going through an "artist's block" and that it would pass...
over the summer, my sweet boy, brian, brought me a fresh bouquet of wild flowers from the farmer's market. besides the fact that there was no special occasion, it really resonated with me in a different way. i can't explain the feeling, but i suddenly felt so inspired by these flowers that i felt the need to do something about it. i needed to capture their colors & life. so i painted.
i spent the whole afternoon & evening infront of the still life i set up; sketching, painting, and studying the colors, patterns, & designs. finally, i was happy with the end result... and that was the encouragement i needed to keep going!
so thank you, brian, for that first bouquet of flowers that helped me out of my creative rut... & thanks, pierre, for being the cutest photo prop :)
now let me ask you, where do you find inspiration? what gets you out of an artist's block?
xo, g

garden ladies
i noticed a little trend in the london illustrator world. two of my favorite young artists, emma block and clare owen, have done illustrations of pretty ladies tending to their window box gardens. i love seeing how different artists interpret the same theme.
i thought these were too gorgeous not to share, so here are both illustrations from emma and clare, respectively.

happy mother's day
Hello! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and a special Mother's Day (if you celebrate!)
I had a great weekend (which will have to be it's own post.) However, on Sunday I came home and hung out with my mum while she planted flowers...I just watched :)
Little did she know I was actually painting an illustration for her! And here it is!
She really loved it which made me super happy.
Here you go, Mommy! I love you so much <3 I hope you had a great Mother's Day :)

pretty things friday
TGIF!!! I'm really happy it's Friday, if you couldn't tell... it's been such a long week!
This week I've been working on a couple freelance projects, and I also was able to show Matt my hometown and introduce him to my crazy pets. He even brought me flowers, which was the sweetest thing :)
So here is Pretty Things Friday! Of course I had to include my flowers hehe... enjoy!
Have an awesome weekend! Look for a March Mixtape this week!

valentine's day
Happy belated Valentine's day lovely readers!
I hope you all had a great day filled with lots of love... and other romantic things too ;)
My friend Matt and I went out for a nice dinner to celebrate the day. He even got me flowers, but I forgot them at his apartment :(
Today he sent me a picture of them... I still think they're really pretty even if they're a bit dilapidated.
I have a strange fascination with dying flowers.

pretty things friday
Friday is here, and so is PTF. I hope everyone had a nice week!
Pretty flowers.

My pretty dream {tree} house.

Pretty pupils.

Pretty silly.

The prettiest tattoo I ever did see!

Pretty cute.

Pretty true analogy.

Pretty sweet rug.

Pretty nerdy.

Pretty creepy birdies.

Pretty inspirational.

Still pretty obsessed with adorable kitties.

Pretty "me."

I am pretty much salivating just thinking about cookie dough.

Pretty much the cutest thing ever.

Happy weekend!
